Many people don't realize just how often they are a pedestrian. For example, you may find yourself walking through parking lots day after day.
While it's easy to believe that parking lots are safe, with most people driving slowly, this is not always the case. Just the same as the roadways, a serious accident can happen at any time.
Here are a few parking lot safety tips that you need to follow:
- Watch out for parked vehicles that are ready to back out
- Eliminate distractions, such as talking on your phone as you navigate through a parking lot
- Use caution when moving from a parking lot to a street (where there is more traffic)
- Beware of drivers who are not paying attention, such as those who are on the phone or checking their shopping bags
These are just a few of the many things you can do to enhance your level of safety in a parking lot. By following these tips, you'll find it much easier to avoid an accident that can result in injury or death.
If you or a loved one is struck by a vehicle in a parking lot, don't try to get up. You should stay where you are, call 911 and wait for police and an ambulance to arrive at the scene. Assuming you feel good enough to get back on your feet is a mistake, as this could worsen your injury.
You have legal rights as a pedestrian, and you need to keep these in mind at all times. A parking lot accident is serious, so make sure you know what to do next.
