There are certain people in this world to whom we hold a higher standard of conduct. These people are often public servants or people in positions of authority, whose jobs involve protecting or safeguarding the well-being of others, such as teachers, police officers, and firefighters. Unfortunately, not all of these individuals are able to maintain that level of heightened conduct, and they occasionally make dangerous or reckless decisions, setting a very poor example for others. This is especially tragic when they are otherwise exceptional at their job.
Recently in Tennessee, the principal of Independence High School was arrested for drunk driving. Reports indicate that he was involved in an accident, and a Highway Patrol trooper noticed that the principal exhibited signs of possible intoxication, including poor performance when tested for sobriety. The man's BAC has not been released, but the principal did admit to consuming alcohol, including vodka, before the accident.
Of course, all of this does not necessarily mean that the man was driving while drunk. He is absolutely innocent until proven guilty, but considering he has a previous drunk driving incident on his record from back in 2009, the circumstances do not look favorably upon him. Even if he is acquitted, the controversy can damage his own reputation and the reputation of his school, which is a shame considering that he was named Principal of the Year in Middle Tennessee for the 2015 ? 2016 school year.
It is important to remember that nobody is above drunk driving, even extremely accomplished, professional public servants. That is why you should not be afraid to pursue compensation if you are injured in an accident with a drunk driver, no matter who that drunk driver may be. If you have been injured in a drunk driving accident, consider meeting with an attorney to explore your legal options for pursuing compensation.
