Bart Durham’s Halloween Open House Through The Years

October is one of our favorite months of the year! Across Tennessee and Kentucky, people celebrate Halloween with spooky traditions, costume parties, trick-or-treating, pumpkin patches, “haunted” events, and more. However, at Bart Durham Injury Law, no tradition is more anticipated than our now legendary Halloween Open House, held at our location in downtown Nashville!

Every year, our team goes all-out, transforming the entire office with decorations and dressing up in outlandish costumes - all to have fun while helping great causes across our communities. Due to the need to social distance, we will, unfortunately, be celebrating at home in 2020.

While we all look forward to coming together again for 2021’s Open House, read below to learn what makes this event so special and revisit some of our favorite moments from years past!

Dressing Up

You never know who you’ll meet when you wander our corridors. Over the years, our staff has dressed up as Te Fiti from Disney’s Moana, the Grinch, a “Bridezilla” (literally a dinosaur in a wedding dress), Joyce Byers from Netflix’s Stranger Things, a Jedi knight from Star Wars, Flo from Progressive, an Oompa Loompa from Charlie nd the Chocolate Factory, and so much more! At the end of every Open House, guests are encouraged to vote for their favorite costume - giving bragging rights to winners for the entire year.

Decorating

Guests also vote on who’s workspace decorations reign supreme after navigating through the different offices. The competition starts heating up as long as a month before with each team member given six hours of company time to prepare their room (many come in during weekends as well). Some of our favorites include a Post Malone concert, 1950s diner, haunted circus, the jungle from Where The Wild Things Are, Dunder Mifflin, Inc. from The Office, the restaurant from Bob’s Burgers, and inside of an aquarium.

Raising Donations

While everyone has a blast dressing up, decorating, and touring the office, one of the best aspects of our Open House is the fact that it allows us to gather donations for local organizations helping those in need. By encouraging guests to bring clothing, non-perishable food items, and other necessities to use to “vote” on their favorite costume and office, we’ve raised thousands of dollars and thousands of pounds of food for Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, St. John’s United Methodist Church’s Thursday Night Community Meals, and other non-profits.

We’re proud to be an open and inviting office comprised of caring, diverse, and talented people. When not helping people to get the justice they deserve and hosting open houses, our employees have also volunteered at Hands On Nashville events, Habitat For Paws, and many other local charities.

While this year’s Halloween will be different, we can’t wait to host everyone in-person again for an even bigger and better Open House in 2021! In the meantime, celebrate the season safely with your friends and family and don’t hesitate to reach out if we can do anything to help.
