There is a lot to think about before you opt in favor of knee replacement surgery. Although this may be something you need to get around better and feel your best, it's imperative that you're familiar with exactly what to expect.

There are many potential complications of knee replacement surgery, all of which you should discuss with your medical team upfront.

To start, you need to know that the right product is being used. In the past, a variety of knee replacement products have been recalled. You don't want one of these, as it increases the likelihood that something will go wrong in the future.

Some other potential complications of knee replacement surgery include:

-- Infection. This can happen shortly after the surgery or even years later. Either way, it needs to be treated without delay.

-- Blood clots. This is a common complication that can be life-threatening if not dealt with in the appropriate manner.

-- Continued pain. It may not be common, but it's possible to experience continued pain following your knee replacement surgery.

Knee replacement is not guaranteed to fix your problem immediately. Instead, you'll need to follow this procedure with physical therapy to ensure that you're able to make a full and fast recovery.

If you have reason to believe that your complications are related to a defective knee replacement product, you should discuss this with your medical team. You should also learn more about your legal rights, as you may be able to take steps toward receiving compensation for your injury.
