Vehicle manufacturers and safety regulators have taken significant steps toward improving automobile safety. Unfortunately, however, auto defects still occur and affect vehicles in Tennessee, and elsewhere. On their own or as a result of car accidents, such defects may lead to serious injuries or death for vehicle occupants.
The daughter of actor, Paul Walker, claims that auto defects caused her father’s death. In 2013, Walker was a passenger in a Porsche Carrera GT that was being driving by a friend. The vehicle crashed and subsequently exploded, resulting in the deaths of both men. The attorney representing Walker’s daughter claims that auto defects trapped the 40-year-old actor, who had survived the wreck, inside the burning vehicle.
Walker’s daughter has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Porsche. She argues that the auto maker neglected to install an electronic stability control system in the vehicle, which might have prevented the accident. Recently, the court dismissed a wrongful death lawsuit that was filed by the driver’s wife. She also suggested that auto defects were a substantial factor in the collision, and thus, her husband’s death. Despite the recent ruling, Walker’s daughter intends to move forward with her lawsuit.
Losing a loved one in a motor vehicle accident is difficult enough for the family members who are left behind. However, such losses may be even more upsetting when they are caused by auto defects. In such cases, the vehicle manufacturers may be held responsible for the resulting damages. Therefore, those who have experienced situations such as this may find it helpful to discuss their situations with a legal representative.
