9 incidents of children entangled in IKEA bed canopies

Securing their children's safety is probably one of the biggest priorities in Nashville parents' lives. This can be difficult, especially when children reach school age and begin to engage in activities without parental supervision. However, most parents likely feel confident that when their kids are tucked in their beds at night, they are very safe. This confidence can be severely shaken when a bed-related product is recalled because of a design defect that could seriously injure or kill infants or small children.

In nine instances, children have become tangled in their IKEA bed canopies that were specifically designed for cribs and kids' beds. As a result of these incidents, the company has recalled eleven canopies. It is unclear from this report whether these eleven constitute the entirety of IKEA's child canopy product lines.

One of these nine incidents involved an infant in the United States. Reports do not indicate whether this or any other child suffered injuries as a result of becoming entangled. IKEA has distributed 2.6 million of these canopies worldwide, and 250,000 of them are in the U.S. Consumers who have purchased these products are instructed to stop using them and take them back to an IKEA location to receive a refund.

For parents whose children were injured as the result of using dangerous products that suffered from design and manufacturing defects, making a negligent manufacturer accountable for its actions may be a top priority. If you are interested in bringing a civil lawsuit against a company for design flaw, you may find it beneficial to speak with a lawyer.
