Most Tennessee drivers are careful behind the wheel most of the time, but unfortunately they must often share the road with irresponsible and careless drivers, including some who are under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Intoxicated drivers can easily cause accidents that destroy the lives of innocent people around them.
One man was killed and several others injured in a three-vehicle crash recently when a driver crossed over the center line of a Tennessee highway and struck an SUV, sending it spinning into a van. Police said they believe the first driver was under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol and are investigating the case as a vehicular homicide.
According to police, the driver of the SUV was killed in the accident. The man's two young children were also in the SUV and were injured, one of them critically. Three occupants of the van were also injured and treated at local hospitals. The driver who now faces possible criminal charges was also injured in the accident.
After drunk driving accidents, the injured may face enormous medical expenses and lost wages as well as pain and suffering and other less tangible costs. In the case of a fatal accident, the victim's family is left without that person's income and companionship. It can be hard to face all these losses and know that they were the result of one person's decision to drive while drunk.
A personal injury lawsuit can help the injured and their families cope with the aftermath of a senseless crash. It can also help hold careless drunk drivers responsible for their actions.
