Auto accident devastates Tennessee family

Responsible drivers know that when they get behind the wheel, they are taking the lives of many people in their hands. Motorists should only operate a vehicle when they can focus on the road and avoid distractions, and drivers should never operate an automobile while under the influence of alcohol. Unfortunately, not every driver is a safe driver, and sometimes innocent people end up suffering the consequences of their negligent conduct.

In a serious auto accident that recently took place in Ohio, a Tennessee couple was killed and three of their children were severely injured. The family was on their way to visit grandparents when the tragic crash occurred. According to police, a man was driving south along a northbound lane of the Interstate when he collided with the Tennessee family's van. The man, whom police suspect may have been under the influence of alcohol, was travelling with his young children. Both the wrong-way driver and his 7-year-old son were killed in the head-on collision.

When a person suffers a serious injury because of another individual's actions, a victim or their family may have a cause of action for a negligence lawsuit. In a complex case such as this one, the immediate kin of deceased victims and the designated caregivers of minor children can enlist the assistance of an experienced personal injury attorney to help them recover compensation. When the at-fault party is deceased, like in this case, an accident victim or their family can hold that person's estate and their insurance carrier liable for their losses.

In a successful negligence claim, a court may award victims compensation for their medical expenses, loss of income and pain and suffering. In a case as tragic as this one, the family of deceased victims can also claim damages for loss of companionship, and caregivers for surviving children may be awarded financial support to assist in their upbringing.
