A fatal head-on accident that occurred recently during the afternoon hours south of Shelbyville, Tennessee claimed three lives. Among the dead was a woman who was a prominent resident of Moore County, a relative of Jack Daniel, and former board member of a local bank as well as principal of a local company. The woman was a passenger in one of the cars. She was airlifted to a hospital in Nashville, where she succumbed to multiple injuries. Both drivers also died at the scene. The car accident occurred on Highway 82 about two miles south of Shelbyville.

The other two persons who lost their lives have been identified as a 72-year-old man from La Vergne and a 46-year-old man from Murfreesboro.

According to the police reports, all three victims sustained serious blunt force injuries. The accident investigation team also observed that the cars had stopped instantly; there were no visible skid marks. The drivers and the passenger were all wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Highway 82 remained closed for traffic for about two and half hours after the crash. The drivers were extracted from their cars, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol reconstruction team investigated the accident.

Accidents that result in fatalities are tragic and cause untold grief for the victims' surviving family members. Though the survivors can file claims with the insurers of the negligent driver for monetary losses, including medical and other expenses, no amount of monetary compensation can compensate for the life lost. Nonetheless a wrongful death recovery can help ensure that a family's grief is not compounded by financial distress.
