Motor vehicle accidents that include head-on collisions are often amongst the most serious and deadly. Typically cars and trucks involved in head-on collisions are traveling at high speeds and therefore collide at full-impact. One such head-on car accident recently resulted in the injuries of four Tennessee residents.
The accident occurred when a 55-year-old driver of an SUV crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a car driven by a 56-year-old woman. When the collision occurred, a 19-year-old man who was driving directly behind the vehicle that was hit head-on was unable to avoid the crash and also crashed into the 56-year-old's vehicle.
The 56-year-old driver of the car that was hit along with a 62-year-old passenger, sustained serious injuries and were flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center by helicopter. The 55-year-old driver who caused the crash, also sustained serious injuries and was taken via ambulance to the same medical center. The 19-year-old driver was also injured and transported to a local hospital.
While police continue to investigate the multiple-car accident and potential causes, it's obvious the 55-year-old driver was at fault. Distracted driving or fatigued driving may have played a role in causing the 55-year-old to lose control of his vehicle and cross the highway's center line.
The three individuals injured in the multiple car accident may chose to file lawsuits against the negligent driver. It's likely that all three sustained serious injuries for which they will require weeks or even months of medical and rehabilitative care. Likewise, all three could attempt to recover compensation for lost wages as well as general pain and suffering resulting from their injuries.
