Car accidents are common events in the Nashville area but are always unexpected for those involved. A car accident can have devastating consequences and result in serious personal injuries or the wrongful death of a Nashville resident. There are many causes of highway car accidents and often those who suffer the most serious personal injuries are not at fault for the accident.

One serious highway car accident left one man dead Wednesday afternoon and caused a traffic rush hour nightmare on Interstate 440. Authorities say that a 43-year-old man lost control of his blue Toyota Corolla while travelling west between I-65 and the Nolensville exit of the highway. The Corolla crossed the grass median and became airborne, landing on top of a pickup truck.

Images of the crash show the badly damaged Corolla planted on top of the smashed pickup truck. The 50-year-old pickup truck driver was killed in this accident. The third vehicle involved in this accident was a semi-truck, which was attempting to pass the pickup truck when the flying Corolla slammed the pickup into the side of the semi. The semi-truck appears to have suffered light damage and it is unclear whether the semi-truck driver suffered any injuries.

Emergency crews rushed the 43-year-old Corolla driver to Vanderbilt Medical Center where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

It is unclear why the Corolla driver lost control of his vehicle but there are several common contributing factors to car accidents such as this one including driver distraction, intoxicated driving, and poor vehicle maintenance that leads to blown out tires or other mechanical issues.
